Open a new video project
Start a new video project in Descript’s free GIF maker and bring in the video or image files you plan to convert into a GIF by dragging and dropping them. You can also click the Media icon to browse our built-in library of images, videos, and GIFs. Then, click the Aspect Ratio & video settings icon on the canvas to set your GIF’s dimensions: portrait, landscape, square, or custom.

Create your GIF from images or videos
Select any layer to resize, rearrange, edit, or apply effects. Since GIFs don’t have audio, consider adding text by clicking the Text icon to include static or animated captions. On the right side of the screen, choose your font style, size, and any text animations.

Trim and export your GIF
Timing matters with GIFs, so use the multi-track timeline editor to trim or adjust your images, clips, and text. You can use the Blade tool (‘B’) to cut your media layers, or drag the start and end points of your clips or images. When everything looks right, go to Publish > Export to download your GIF.
