Upload your video
Drag and drop your media (MP4, AVI, MOV, WMV, MKV, FLV) into a new Descript project. Pick the file you want to use in the Green Screen Video Editor, along with any background videos or images. You can also select from a variety of stock options by clicking the Media icon.

Apply the Green Screen effect
Pick a clip to turn into a green screen background, open the properties panel, and choose Effects & Green Screen. Descript uses AI to isolate your subject and remove everything else. After it finishes, toggle the effect on or off anytime in the same panel.

Place your video on a new background

How does a green screen work?
A green screen is a method that layers one image or video over another. You film a person or subject in front of a bright green surface, then replace that color with a different backdrop. It simplifies production and can place your scene anywhere you’d like, without traveling.

Both are part of chroma keying, where you remove a bright color—often green or blue—and replace it. Modern cameras capture green more vividly, so it’s a popular choice. If your subject wears green, you might choose blue. With Descript, you can remove backgrounds even if you don’t have a solid-colored screen.
How do I add a background after Green Screen?
