Descript 3.7 is here, and that means exciting new features and improvements to your workflow, including detecting and removing silence in one step, batch export, and easy changes between subscription plans. For a quick look at how these functions work, watch the video below. Read on for the full story.

Remove silence and word gaps

Long, awkward silences might be great for dramatic effect — or for comedic cringe. But if you want a snappy final cut, Descript’s new silence and word gap removal feature has you covered. Whether you’re trimming a choppy Zoom interview or just tightening your podcast’s pacing, you can now detect, shorten, or replace those silent stretches with a single search.

Batch export

This feature allows for more flexibility when exporting audio from your Descript project. Just like before, you can export an entire composition or a selection from a composition. Now you can also export audio into discrete chunks divided by either line breaks or markers, which will come in handy depending on your composition’s organization. Last but not least, you can additionally export every composition in a given project in one go. Note that this feature will eventually be limited to a higher-priced Descript plan oriented towards professionals, but for the next while, we’re making it available to everyone.

Flatten compositions and replace transcripts

Flattening a composition merges all your edits into one continuous track and removes edit markers in both the timeline and script, so you can ‘start fresh.’ Just be aware: flattening is permanent. If you need to revert, you’ll have to rely on a previous saved version or project backup. As for transcription, Descript’s AI is excellent but not flawless; you can now easily replace it with a manually edited or prepared transcript. If you often collaborate on projects in different editing stages or work from polished scripts, these two features can drastically streamline your workflow.

Better control over your Descript subscription

Managing your Descript subscription is simpler than ever. Want to save money by switching from monthly to annual? Just:

1. Click Create a new drive in the project browser.
2. Select Billing on the left side of the pop-up.
3. Switch to annual and enjoy the discount.

That’s it. No fuss, no hassle — just a clear path to saving a few bucks.

As usual, there’s a number of smaller changes and improvements included under the hood. For a closer look, read our changelog.
